2008 ICD-9-CM Diagnosis Code 429.1
Myocardial degeneration
- condition in which there is a deviation from or interruption of the normal structure or function of the myocardium, the middle and thickest layer of the heart wall, composed of heart muscle.
- A disease of the heart muscle or myocardium proper. Cardiomyopathies may be classified as either primary or secondary, on the basis of etiology, or on the pathophysiology of the lesion: hypertrophic, dilated, or restrictive.
- ICD-9-CM 429.1 is a billable medical code that can be used to specify a diagnosis on a reimbursement claim.
- You are viewing the 2008 version of ICD-9-CM 429.1.
- More recent version(s) of ICD-9-CM 429.1: 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013.
429.1 Alternative Terminology
- Fatty degeneration of heart
429.1 Excludes

Applies To
- Degeneration of heart or myocardium (with mention of arteriosclerosis):
- fatty (with mention of arteriosclerosis)
- mural (with mention of arteriosclerosis)
- muscular (with mention of arteriosclerosis)
- Myocardial (with mention of arteriosclerosis):
- degeneration (with mention of arteriosclerosis)

ICD-9-CM codes are used in medical billing and coding to describe diseases, injuries, symptoms and conditions. ICD-9-CM 429.1 is one of thousands of ICD-9-CM codes used in healthcare. Although ICD-9-CM and CPT codes are largely numeric, they differ in that CPT codes describe medical procedures and services. Can't find a code?
