• A bacterial, fungal or parasitic abscess that develops in the lung parenchyma. Causes include aspiration pneumonia, necrotizing pneumonia, necrotizing malignant tumors, and wegener's granulomatosis.
  • Solitary or multiple collections of pus within the lung parenchyma as a result of infection by bacteria, protozoa, or other agents.
