Infectious colitis enteritis and gastroenteritisView the most recent version of ICD-9-CM 009.0 - INFLAMMATION of any segment of the GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT from ESOPHAGUS to RECTUM. Causes of gastroenteritis are many including genetic, infection, HYPERSENSITIVITY, drug effects, and CANCER.
- An acute or chronic inflammation of the colon caused by viruses (e.g. cytomegalovirus), bacteria (e.g. ameba) or immunologic factors (inflammatory bowel disease which includes Crohn's colitis and ulcerative colitis). -- 2004
- Inflammation of the COLON section of the large intestine (INTESTINE, LARGE), usually with symptoms such as DIARRHEA (often with blood and mucus), ABDOMINAL PAIN, and FEVER.
- Acute inflammation of the intestine associated with infectious DIARRHEA of various etiologies, generally acquired by eating contaminated food containing TOXINS derived from BACTERIA, PROTOZOA, or other microorganisms.
